In 2016, I wanted to give curved piecing a try. I decided to make a little sample of the pattern Chic Country by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I starting cutting the background fabric, then some scraps from my stash. After a quick re-count, though, I realized I had cut twice as many background squares as I needed. Oops! No matter. I'd just make my test-run a little bigger.
A while later, my best friend and her two daughters came by and mentioned that my test-in-progress needed more blue and purple. My brain heard this as, 'You must go to the fabric store!' So, I took them all for an impromptu trip to The Cotton Patch up the street and they each picked out a fabric to add to my quilt. And, thus, the quilt grew again.
After stitching more and more together, I discovered that my 'small' sample could probably fit a king-size bed with just a Few. More. Units.
I named this quilt The Girlfriend Experience after the pivotal role of my friends. I had each lady sign a patch for the back of the quilt, and I embroidered over their signatures. Each name is surrounded by triangles of a fabric they chose for my quilt.
Now, my husband and I get to sleep under my little test quilt every spring. It always makes me smile.
