This is a Pearl Pereira Baltimore album style pattern and it took me seven months to complete. It has over 1500 pieces, all of which I had to make a freezer paper pattern for and then used the starch method to hand appliqué all those pieces. I added a border around the center block to accentuate Lady Liberty. I used all my own fabric and hand quilted the quilt, using different patterns in different areas: double grid in the center, alternating chevron pattern in the 12 side blocks, and ruler lines on the outside border. Some of the pieces were smaller than my tiniest fingernail - i.e., the eagle's beak. There is a lot of hand embroidery on the quilt also. I did free motion quilting around the appliqué shapes. I was thrilled when I actually finished it but I consider it an heirloom type quilt and it will hang in my home in the summer.
