Chicken of the Woods

Chicken of the Woods

width 16" x
 length 11"
This is a most colorful mushroom I found growing on a dead log, in the now wooded nature preserve behind and below our log and chink cabin cottage in Door County, WI. I thread painted the fungi, and used a heavily twisted batik to represent the downed wood. The color is neon bright, the texture is suede-like in feel, and it is edible and nutritious, but must be cooked before eating.
