December 9, 2019

Margaret was born in Elberta, Alabama. She had a younger sister, Esther.

The family relocated to San Leandro, CA, where she spent most of her growing up years. She was confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and graduated from San Leandro High School in 1944. She worked as a bookkeeper at Smith’s Clothiers in Oakland, where she met her husband, Bob. They were married on June 28, 1953 at St. Peter’s.

They settled in Danville, where they raised their 3 children – Charlie, Nancy and Janet.

Reba Siero shares, “in every picture I have ever seen of Margaret, she is smiling. Whenever I saw her in person, she was smiling! She was a truly happy person!”

Margaret was known in the guild for her meticulous hand applique, and particularly for her beautiful Sunbonnet Sue blocks.  She was a regular participant every Wednesday, at the Schoolhouse and then at the Farmhouse. She was the assistant to the quilt show treasurer for many years, well into her 80’s.
