Desert Candles

34.5 x 16.5

Irma Lubbe

I began this quilt in a Jean Wells workshop. The curved piecing was a challenge, especially on the sharper curves! I added texture with bobbin work, for which I wound embroidery floss onto a bobbin and stitched from the back – exciting because you don’t know what’s happening on the front until you are finished. My photos of desert candles in the Mojave were my inspiration.
